My top three tips: 1. Keep it simple -Buy only what you can afford... for yourself and people you love. The rest is not necessary. Food - The tummy will take the same amount of food on Christmas day it takes the rest of the year.
2. Spend it in the company of people you love... and can stand to be around. An invitation usually requires two answers. "yes" or "thank you, but...". Honesty relieves stress
3. Rest rest rest. We weary ourselves with unnecessary activities. Like Helen Roditis said... simplify plans and decor.
