Common Sense Advice from Dad
by Jeff Price
(Marietta, GA)
My dad was a farmer most of his life. Later on he went onto open a small liquor store. That store paid for his four kids to attend college.
When I graduated from Purdue I had offers from all over the country from several large construction firms and IBM (I majored in Construction Management). I was not sure what avenue to take.
My dad's wise and simple advice felt right and has shaped my career in a great way.
When asked what he thought, he said, "You probably ought to go to work for a business that does what you want to do - where their primary business matches what your degree..."
That common sense advice was spot-on - I went to work for a construction firm and have never looked back.
SUZIE'S COMMENTS...From my husband! Thank you Jeff for sharing. Your dad's great ability to share common sense was passed on to you, you are my common sense example every day.
I love you!
